Allendale Cornet Band I
Halfway Worth Mentioning
The Times-Tribune--February 16, 1983
By Bill Gladstone
There are several pictures of bands in the picture
collection of the Worth County Historical Society. There are two
pictures of the Allendale cornet Band. I suspect that there are
some of the same people in each band, but I don't know.
Someone has identified this picture as having been taken in 1889
and that Charley Calhoon was the director.
The members were also identified beginning on the left as Ed Hammer,
Bill Sanders, Unidentified, Arch Campbell, Keith Rush, W.A. Robertson,
Ben McDonald, Ben Williams, Gus Elliot, Charles Calhoon and Leslie
Fry.
The picture which will run next week (God willing and the creek
don't rise) doesn't have a single person identifies.
I have been trying to find someone to get the story of Rainbow
Park and the Trading Post into some sort of a permanent record.
To me, that was one of the most ambitious projects that ever happened
in this county.
Surely, there must be some pictures to go along with the story.
I think I remember a letter to the editor some years ago from
Bob Simpson about this same subject.
